6 Tips for Athletes to Protect their Skin from the Sun

Do you make a conscious effort to apply sunscreen every time you’re in the sun? The beach should not be the only occasion for lathering up! For instance, athletes are constantly exposed to the sun during practice, races and games, but they may not always remember to put on their Screen! This means applying it from head to toe, not just your face. Athletes who play spring sports, such as tennis or track & field have their entire bodies baking in the sun so it’s essential that you cover your arms, legs and neck as well. Our GR8SKN Screen is a perfect size to keep in your bag, it’s quick and easy to use, and it’s very light so your skin doesn’t feel greasy. The bonus is that it doesn’t smell like your typical sunscreen! Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and the more you let your skin sit in the sun unprotected, the higher your risk will be. Those with bare skin may burn faster, so understand your personal needs as well. We encourage you to include sunscreen application in your game day routine, or else your sore legs won’t be the only thing hurting afterward!

6 Ways to Prepare Your Skin for Outdoor Sports:

  1. Wash your face and apply your sunscreen when you wake up! Now that spring has approached and summer is right around the corner, it’s important that you get into the habit of applying your sunscreen everyday after you wash your face, especially before a game or meet!

  2. Don’t leave out your arms and legs! Your face is not the only thing exposed to the sun during practice or games. It’s just as crucial to protect your arms, neck and legs in preventing your chances of developing skin cancer.

  3. Reapply after you sweat! Yes, we know reapplying your sunscreen is probably the last thing you’re worried about in the middle of a game. However, if you have some time at halftime or sitting on the sideline, try your best to be mindful of reapplying. Sweat will rub off the Screen, and it will no longer be effective!

  4. Wear a hat! If there’s any chance you can wear a hat during your tennis match or waiting for your race at a track meet, take that opportunity to give your skin extra protection from the sun!

  5. Apply your screen 30 minutes in advance! It’s important that you apply your screen about 30 minutes before you’re exposed to the sun. This gives it time to sink into your skin and make sure it’s most effective.

  6. Wash your sunscreen off afterward! Hopefully you’re coming home with a win and no sunburn! Then you know it’s been a successful day. Simply hop in the shower, wash off your screen and enjoy the feeling of a fresh face!
